EMS Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program
Mission: To develop, implement, and monitor effective guidance and counseling programs and services, for ALL EMS students, in order to assist them in meeting their diverse academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary needs and goals.
Vision: To profoundly impact and positively influence students to discover and experience the richness of life.
Currently I am working under the Colorado School Counselor Corps (CSCC) grant emphasizing the following focused goals for our students:
- Increase middle school students’ awareness and exploration of college and career options,
- Increase academic self-efficacy in terms of asking for help, finishing homework, studying when there are other interesting things to do, paying attention during class, and passing all subjects,
- Increase social-emotional skills particularly in the areas of managing emotions (e.g., stress, anxiety, depression) and healthy social relationships (e.g., setting boundaries, solving friendship conflicts, working cooperatively with others).
The CSCC also supports the professional development of all staff, hosts family information nights, purchases curriculum, and provides off-campus experiences. In the summer, we will be hosting a college exposure trip for select 8th grade students to take them across the state on a tour of Colorado campuses and immerse them in the world of college life. If you have any questions regarding the school counseling program, please contact me at (719) 683-2700, ext. 2234.
