Hello Ellicott Elementary Families!
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! We are very excited to welcome our new families and to welcome back our returning families.
We are greatly excited by the addition of our amazing new playground and shade pavilion that was installed in August this year. The students LOVE the new rock free play area and have greatly enjoyed the new climbing and balance additions. The new slides are pretty popular as well. Some of our classes have taken advantage of the shade pavilion for picnics, snack time, and outdoor lessons. We want to thank the Parent Engagement Committee for their many years of dedicated fund-raising to bring such an exciting and stimulating play area to the Ellicott Elementary students. The smiles and laughter heard during recess are a joyful part of the day.
We want to take a moment to remind families of some of the safety measures we have in place at our school. In the morning, families are welcome to bring their children to school. Please remember that from 7:30-8:00am the bus lanes are not accessible for personal vehicles and are to be used only by buses and school vans. This will ensure that we are able to keep students safe in our parking lot and driveway. Families may enjoy the "Kiss and Go" space in the elementary entry hall. It is a wonderful way to walk your students in for the day and send them on their way with one last hug and kiss for the day. Teachers and staff will be busy with morning duty and preparation. We ask that you please make an appointment if you would like to speak to a staff member before school. Students are welcome to enjoy breakfast in our cafeteria or can wait with their classmates and friends in the gym if they are Kindergarten through second grade or in the commons if they are third through fifth grade.
If you are picking up a student to leave early, please be sure to have your ID with you so we can verify all students are being collected by their listed adults. If you need to have someone not on your list pick up your child please let the office know in advance who will be picking up your student for the day. At the end of the day, students will exit the building using the north door. Families are welcome to meet the classes to pick up their students at that location or they can meet their child in the gym. Families, please be sure that the teacher knows you have taken your child so we can ensure that all students are accounted for at the end of the day. Additionally, families who are picking up students are asked to please use the crosswalks and not walk through the parked buses. We want to ensure that your children are safe when going home. As a reminder, if you are making a change to how a student is going home for the day, please contact the teacher or office as soon as possible. This can be done in the planner notes, by email, or by phone call. If we do not have a note stating otherwise, we will place your student on the bus or in the gym as per their usual routine.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at our school and encourage you to sign up to volunteer and lend your talents to our classes and to our Parent Engagement Committee. We have many wonderful family opportunities coming up, so keep an eye on our page for your chance to attend Family Lunch, field trips, or one of our other great activities! Thank you for sharing your students with us, we are very excited to share this school year with you!
